ADDIS: Aggregate Data Drug Information System

ADDIS is a proof-of-concept system that allows us to simultaneously discover the possibilities of and the requirements on a database of structured clinical trials data. We support the automated discovery and (meta-)analysis of trial data, as well as benefit-risk assessment.

Citing ADDIS

If you use ADDIS in your work and you would to cite us, please cite the following reference:

If you want to be notified when we release a new version of ADDIS, please subscribe to our mailing list, addis-announce. On this list, we will make important announcements regarding ADDIS, such as a new release. We expect that at most one e-mail will be sent each month.

ADDIS uses our library, drugis.org MTC to automatically perform network meta-analyses. JSMAA is used to support benefit-risk analysis.

Development Methodology

We develop ADDIS 'in the open,' i.e. we provide information on our current direction, the full, up-to-date source code and nightly builds of ADDIS (a nightly build is a snapshot of the in-development application). The work we do on ADDIS is directly based on discussions and collaborations with researchers in pharmacy and medicine.

Our day-to-day development activities are structured according to an agile methodology. Specifically, we are using a slightly modified version of Extreme Programming (Beck and Andres, 2004) in an academic context.

Getting ADDIS

Released Version

The most recent version is ADDIS v1.12.4, released 2012-05-14.

Roughly, we are on a quarterly cycle, meaning that we release a new version every three months.

Released versions of ADDIS:

Development Versions

At the end of each iteration (two-week development cycle), we build a "development release" as an internal milestone. Version numbers are structured as major.minor.revision; development releases have an odd minor version, while the revision denotes the iteration. For example, version 1.3.2 would be the result of the second iteration working toward the v1.4 official release. Typically, there are 5—7 iterations before an official release.

Nightly Builds

Nightly builds are for the more adventurous user. They may not always work as intended, but contain the very latest functionality. This is interesting if you want to experiment with or test the features expected in the upcoming release. If not, you are better off using a released version.

Source Code

Source code access is interesting for developers wishing to extend ADDIS with new functionality, or for those who wish to investigate the inner workings of the software. Furthermore, the availability of source code means that a user of the system will always be able to (hire someone to) extend or repair the software.

The source code is available from github.com/gertvv/addis.
